Tracy Whirls is the economic development coordinator for the Southwest Florida Regional Planning Council, the economic development district designated by the US Economic Development Administration (EDA) for Lee, Collier, Charlotte, Sarasota, Hendry and Glades Counties. Before joining the RPC in 2021, Ms. Whirls served as the economic development director for Glades County for 16 years, after relocating to Florida from Kentucky to work as an associate editor at the Okeechobee News in 1995.

Ms. Whirls spent ten years with Independent Newspapers Incorporated, almost literally working her way around Lake Okeechobee covering government, economic and tourism development and related issues in rural South Central Florida. Ms. Whirls graduated magna cum laude from Kentucky State University with a major in English Literature and a philosophy minor and has 34 hours toward a master’s degree in English Literature from the University of Kentucky.
